"Devotion to Mary is of tremendous importance to the cause of truth. All truth begins with God, and God came into the world in human form, Jesus Christ. The God-man lived with her life for nine months. She furnished Him the body in which He was to live and die. That sacred body which God thus inhabited must needs have been perfect, pure. Perfectly holy, infinitely precious to God and most decidedly not allowed by Him to suffer the common corruption of the grave.
When her earthly course was finished, in a calm and peaceful death, her sacred body was borne by Apostles, amid tears of the faithful, to the sepulchre prepared for it in the valley of Jehosaphat, near Jerusalem, where the beautiful corpse, its features still bright and lovely as with the freshness of youth, was deposited in the tomb.
A few lingered behind, perhaps foreknowing the wonder that was about to be performed. They kept watch, day and night, till the third day and during the whole of that time an invisible company of angels were their companions, filling the air with the sweet harmony of their voices, singing and praising God. On the third day, the heavenly music ceased, and about the same time there arrived in Jerusalem the one living Apostle who had not been present at Mary’s decease. When he heard of the loss the Church had sustained, he besought his bretheren to indulge him one last look at the countenance of the Mother of his Lord. Not unwillingly they consented, and set out for the tomb, and on hearing that the angelic harmony had ceased, they knew full well what it was that had taken place. They knew that the body of their Blessed Mother, like that of her Divine Son, was no longer where they had laid it. Opening the tomb they found as they had anticipated. Nothing was there. Nothing, that is, but the veil wherewith the body had been covered, and the flowers with which the sepulchre had been adorned when first it received its precious deposit. Fresh flowers of exquisite colour and fragrance had sprung up where the body had been laid, but the body itself was gone.
Jesus descending from heaven, with the blessed soul of His Virgin Mother, had by His divine word reunited it to her sacred body, which thereupon rose, bright, glorious and immortal, and passed at once to that exalted throne which Jesus had prepared for her at His own right hand in the highest of heavens.
Today, the 15th August, we celebrate the birthday of her eternal triumph, when she was crowned with the brightest diadem of glory, above all the saints and angels, with the honour due to the Mother of God. A day of joy and exultation for her sake as the day in which she was received to her everlasting reward, and for our own because it assures us that we too, if we remain faithful unto death, shall one day enter the kingdom of glory and receive our crown at the hand of the Lord."
May Our Blessed Mother help us all to attain heaven.
