The Catholic Encyclopedia - New Advent
Does anyone know about the online Catholic Encyclopedia by New Advent in regards to reliability? Is there anything about it that we need to be wary about?

I have compared passages from the online text to actual hardbound copies and have always found it to be accurate. I view it as a trusted source.

They are also available on Google Books and Archive.org, in case someone wants to verify the accuracy of New Advent, but doesn't have hard copies. I've found one or two inaccuracies on New Advent, but nothing substantial. They seem to have been the result of errors in transferring, or transcribing, the text. Like James, I've also found New Advent to be a trustworthy and very useful source, not only for the Catholic Encyclopedia, but also for the Summa and the writings of Church Fathers. The combination of sources under one search function, makes it an excellent place to start for research on Catholic subjects.

Thank you very much for the responses. I am very fond of the Summa there. Also you can do a search for anything and get something pre-Vatican 2. I heard second hand that it is not 100% reliable (trust-worthy) maybe because the owner is Novus Ordo, but I never got a specific reason why and was trying to find out if the accusation could be substantiated. Thanks again for responding.

Thanks again for responding. If there is something that seems to suggest a Novus Ordoish thesis, I would have it double checked. If there is anything, it would be minimal we can always recourse to the original so that is a good thing. They gave you some links, in case its necessary.
