Re: Papal Coronation Oath
You have asked a good question, and this deserves investigation since it has been used as an argument against the Vatican II popes. I would state, though, that if a pope said this oath or not would not be proof of the lawfulness of his claim. I have done some digging and here are some findings:
1.
I have found the text published by Dr. R. Coomaraswamy in his book,
The Destruction of the Christian Tradition, p. 132. Text found here:
http://books.google.com/books?id=l4uxWo ... th&f=falseHis endnote for the text is on pg. 156: the
Liber Diurnus Romanorum Pontificum He does not cite any page or section.
2. The website, Daily Catholic, also gives the text and gives a more specific source:
Liber Diurnus Romanorum Pontificum,
Migne's Patrologia Latina 105, 40-44 and published by Eugene de Rozier, 1869.
http://www.dailycatholic.org/papaoath.htm3. There are other places that the text is found online.
4. I found the book that is cited in the quote,
Liber Diurnus Romanorum Pontificum,
Migne's Patrologia Latina vol. 105. It is found here:
http://books.google.com/books?id=Ij18R_ ... &q&f=false Unfortunately, my Latin is very inadequate for the task of studying this quote in this text to compare them. Perhaps someone on this forum could try to solve this mystery and figure this out.
