The Pillar of the Scourging

The pillar to which Our Blessed Lord was tied when He was scourged during His Sacred Passion. This magnificent relic of the divine charity is preserved in the Basilica of St. Praxedes in Rome. The crypt under the altar of this basilica contains the relics of St. Praxedes and of her sister, St. Pudentiana, and of 2,300 other saints.

The tourist maps of Rome contain no trace of this Basilica, and the explanation given is that Montini removed the names of these holy sisters from the liturgy because of serious doubts about whether they ever existed. Consequently very few tourists venerate the Pillar or the relics of the saints buried there. Like Sts. Christopher and Philomena, these saints have been selected for obscurity by Satan. Their power must indeed be very great, and Catholics ought to invoke them with even greater confidence in the face of this impiety - impiety which proves the greatness of these lovers of Christ.
